What is simple syrup and why do we need it?
There’s nothing worse than pouring sugar in your iced tea, just to have it settle at the bottom of your glass, and then you take a big sip and end up with a mouthful of grainy sugar. We’ve all been there. Simple syrup to the rescue!
If you’ve never heard of simple syrup, it’s basically just sugar that’s been heated and dissolved in water. Simple, right? It’s quick and easy to make, and much cheaper than buying it in the coffee or liquor section at the grocery store.
In my house, we use it for just about any cold drink that needs a little sweetener; iced coffee, Matcha green tea lattes, fresh squeezed lemonade, cocktails.. the list goes on. We make a big batch using the 1:1 ratio and store it in a glass jar in the refrigerator so it’s always there when we need it. I imagine it will stay good for a month or so, but we’ve never made it that long with one batch. We’re big iced drink drinkers here in Arizona.
Now go make yourself some simple syrup and enjoy an ice cold sweet drink!
